Arnold
Schwarzenegger started bodybuilding at
the age of 14 in his hometown of Graz,
Austria. After being invited to train in
the Union by former Mr. Austria Kurt
Marnul, Arnold became dedicated and
visited the gym everyday, breaking in on
Sundays when it was closed.
After going AWOL from the Army in 1965,
Arnold won his first ever title - the
Junior Mr. Europe in Stuttgart, Germany.
This was only the beginning of a long
list of titles, and by the time he was
20, he'd won the Mr. Universe contest as
well as being named the best built
athlete of Europe and the International
Powerlifting Champion.
His move to America sparked more glory,
winning the Mr. Olympia contest
consecutively from 1970-1975. After
claiming that he was not giving anyone
else a chance to win, Arnold retired in
1975 and moved into acting. However, in
1980 he made one last return and won the
Mr. Olympia title a record breaking
seventh time in Sydney, Australia.
In his prime, Arnold had 22" biceps, 20"
calves and his chest was a massive 57
inches. Standing at 6' 2", Arnold also
had a 34" waist and 28.5" thighs. His
competition weight was around 235 pounds
and he developed a training program
which allowed him to gain a large amount
of muscle mass in a very short time,
showing dramatic effects upon his God
like body. He was not a steroid user.
In today's bodybuilding the use of
anabolic steroids and any other growth
drugs have been banned. Athletes do
however have food supplements, diets and
techniques at their disposal to help
train themselves and build their bodies.
